LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – An instructor in Holland Public Schools has received a statewide honor.
Michigan Lottery officials announced on Wednesday that Bill Boerman has won an Excellence in Education Award that recognizes outstanding public school educators across the state during the school year. A STEM teacher (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) of sixth and eighth graders at Holland Middle School, Boerman was honored for what the Lottery office says is his “tireless efforts to seek out grants and resources to help provide hands-on learning experiences and create opportunities and experiences for his students – most from lower-income homes.”
A Hope College graduate, Boerman has been in education for two decades, including the past four years in Holland Public Schools. He has received a plaque, a $1,500 cash prize, and a $500 grant to his classroom, school or school district from the Michigan Lottery, and is now in the running for the Educator of the Year award that includes a $10,000 cash prize.
