HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Two new charges will be formalized today against former Holland resident Jared Chance: murder and tampering with evidence.
In December, Kent County Prosecutor’s Office charged Chance with mutilating a body and concealing a death, for allegedly dismembering the body of Ashley Young of Oshtemo Township.
She’d been reported missing shortly before some of her remains were found in the basement of Chance’s rented home in early December.
The probable cause statement indicated a forensic exam showsYoung did not die of natural causes or an overdose, but could not determine her exact cause of death, ruling it a homicide by unspecified means.
The Kent County Prosector’s documents also indicate Chance had allegedly recently told his downstairs neighbor that he could get away with murder, saying so while holding a gun. Police investigators reported finding traces of blood and human tissue in a vehicle and on a saw found in the Holland home of Chance’s parents, James and Barbara Chance. The elder Chances have each been charged with perjury and being alleged accessories in the case.
