HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A familiar face around town has earned a fresh leaf in her substantial wreath of artistic laurels.
On Thursday night, the Tulip Time Festival and the Holland Area Arts Council jointly announced that Carolyn Stich’s creation “Enduring Delft” was the winner of the 2019 Tulip Time Festival Poster Competition. The owner of an art gallery that bears her name in downtown Holland, Stich captured her second official festival poster honor in five years with her work that she said was “a celebration of Holland, Michigan. The elegant simplicity of Delftware is a beautiful staple of Dutch heritage, and the combination of vivid colors and classic patterns is an expression of the rich tradition and lively spirit found here.”
Stich’s creation beat out 19 other finalists in the annual juried competition and will be featured on posters, giclee prints and other festival merchandise that will go on sale on Friday through the Tulip Time Festival office off of 8th Street in downtown Holland. The other works will now compete in the “Viewer’s Choice” popular vote that will be conducted through the end of Holland’s annual signature event, which runs from May 4th through the 12th, with the winner of that contest to be announced on May 11th.
