OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriffs deputies responded to several crashes on I96 in the eastbound lanes near Marne, starting at 9:30 Friday morning, Feb. 8, 2019.
Police investigators shut down the eastbound lanes of I-96 at 16th Avenue from 10 a.m. through 11:30 a.m., and determined the crashes were caused by blowing snow and very limited visibility.
In all, police documented five crashes involving 11 vehicles with two injuries. One crash involved five vehicles. All the other crashes involved two vehicles apiece.
The two injured parties were taken by Life EMS to nearby hospitals for treatment of what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
I-96 was was salted and sanded by Kent County Road Commission crews before the road was re-opened.
