HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The Holland Department of Public Safety has named Sgt. Shaun Tubergen 2018 Police Officer of the Year.
Sgt. Tubergen’s peers cited his leadership and dedicated experience in their nominations. He’s well-known for his calm demeanor, expertise, approachable personality, and his ability to inspire those around him.
Among his many specialized responsibilities — in addition to his normal duties as a patrol sergeant — are Special Enforcement Team leader, firearms instructor, field training unit supervisor, and he’s an instructor for several West Michigan Criminal Justice Training Consortium courses.
Sgt. Tubergen is an 18-year Holland police veteran, the last eight as a patrol sergeant, and for 15 years has been on the Special Enforcement Team. He’s also instructed many Firearms and Tactical Team courses.
He’s been a patrol sergeant for eight years.
In making the announcement, Holland Department of Public Safety officials noted they are “thankful for Shaun’s dedication to the officers who work for him, to the police department as a whole and to this community.”
