HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Across the nation, May 5-11, 2019 marks the 36th annual National Travel and Tourism Week.
Visit Muskegon, Muskegon County’s destination marketing organization, will celebrate a different aspect and benefit of travel each day of that week: the economy; new experiences; jobs; infrastructure; health benefits; hometown pride; and how travel strengthens families/
This year’s theme is “Travel Matters,” highlighting the many ways in which travel supports Muskegon County’s culture and economy.
The following events are in Muskegon, free, and open to the public:
4-5:30 p.m. Monday, May 6: Social Media Happy Hour, Hennessy’s Irish Pub. 885 Jefferson St. Visitors will learn how to create and maintain a Facebook business page and create an audience engagement plan.
4-5 p.m., Tuesday, May 7: Muskegon Convention Center Information Session. Holiday Inn Muskegon Harbor, 939 Third St. Learn upcoming Muskegon Convention Center plans, what it means fortourism in Muskegon County and how to prepare your business and staff. Tour the renovatedhotel property from 3-3:45 p.m.
11-11:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 8: Muskegon Convention Center Groundbreaking Ceremony, Fourth Street and Western Avenue. Join Muskegon County, the City of Muskegon and Parkland Properties for the Muskegon Convention Center groundbreaking.
11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday, May 9: Lunch and Learn presented by the Hope Project; Shoreline Inn, Marina View Room, 750 Terrace Point Rd. Visit Muskegon and the Hope Project representatives talk about human trafficking and how travelers can help spot and prevent it at home, or while traveling. This event is limited to the first 30 people.
5:30-6:30 p.m., Friday, May 10: Tourism Trivia; Pigeon Hill Brewery, 500 W. Western Ave. No. 1. A little fun to wrap up the week. Test your Muskegon tourism knowledge! Prizes include two round-trip tickets on the Lake Express Ferry, a one-night stay at the new Delta by Marriott, andtwo tickets for an Aquastar cruise. Team registration begins at 5 p.m.
