Fiesta! is an annual Holland-area event, which happens on or close to May 5, the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla — the Mexican Army’s 1862 victory over the French Empire. While the battle was significant because the Mexican Army was considerably smaller than the French, it was not the decisive one. Mexico’s Independence Day is Sept. 16, marking the start of Mexico’s push for independence from Spain, in 1810.
