HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — More than 6,000 voters showed up at the polls on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, to decide two proposals from West Ottawa Public Schools, one being an operating millage, which passed by a wide margin; the other, for a $98 million bond passed by just 111 votes.
Saugatuck Public Schools’ $39 million bonding lost by three votes.
Holland Aquatic Center’s $26 million bond request passed by nearly 1,000 votes; and
Passed:
Casco Township police protection millage renewal proposal drew 160 voters, of which 101 voted “yes,” and 59 voted “no.”
Fennville Public Schools’ operating millage renewal proposal passed, 478 to 175.
Grand Haven Area Public Schools’ operating millage renewal proposal passed with nearly 75 percent of the votes, with 3,271 approving and 1,103 voting against it.
Holland Area Community Swimming Pool Authority $26 million bond proposal passed by a more-narrow margin, with nearly 63 percent — 2,253 in Ottawa and Allegan counties — voting to approve it, and 1,370 opposed. :
West Ottawa Public Schools $98 million bond proposal squeaked by, with 3,180 voters approving (just over 50 percent), and 3,069 against it.
West Ottawa Public Schools’ operating millage renewal proposal fared better, with more than 67 percent, or 4,200 voters agreeing to renew, and 2,038 opposing renewal.
Hudsonville Public Schools’ operating millage renewal proposal passed with 70 percent — 2,239 voters — approving, and 1,023 opposing. Only two Allegan County voters cast ballots on this issue.
Martin Public Schools’ operating millage renewal proposal passed, 200 to 51.
Zeeland Public Schools’ operating millage renewal proposal garnered 77 percent approval, with 1,832 voters agreeing and just 544 voters choosing “no.”
Failed:
Saugatuck Public Schools’ $39 million bonding proposal garnered 1,041 yes votes, but three more, 1,044, voted no, defeating the proposal.
Sparta Area Schools sinking fund millage proposal, overalll — locally, 997 (including those in Kent County) voted against it, while 828 voted for it.
