HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Only about a dozen or so people remained in the second-floor conference room at Holland City Hall by 1:30 Tuesday, May 21, 2019, talking about what Holland’s future waterfront should look like. And there are plenty ideas.
The walls and some of the tables were covered with sketches, drawings and other visual aids, to help designers get as accurate a picture as possible of what Holland residents, business owners and regular visitors would like to see.
A marina. A walkable space. A splash pad. Access for people stretching from Kollen Park to the decommissioned James DeYoung plant — and a neighborhood feel that had room for people from all walks of life, and all income levels.
One designer called it a Kollen Park-like characteristic, explaining that Kollen Park seems to have a little of everything: A place to picnic; while away an afternoon fishing, or just enjoying the waterfront; a restaurant; and access to and from the surrounding neighborhood.
The designers will be present at an open house at Holland City Hall’s council chambers from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, returning Thursday evening for a formal presentation of their findings and recommendations.
