Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Christie Wendt indicated a 22-year-old Spring Lake woman was driving a Hyundai east on Vanwagoner Road. She stopped at the stop sign and was turning north onto 168th when her Hyundai was hit by a Ford Fusion, with an 87-year-old Spring Lake man at the wheel.
He did not stop for the stop sign, Wendt said.
The crash sent the Hyundai into a ditch. The Fusion continued south for several hundred feet, rolling off the west side of the road and hitting a utility pole, which fell, taking out electric lines. across 168th Avenue. Each driver had non-life-threatening injuries, Wendt said, with the Spring Lake man going to North Ottawa Community Hospital for treatment and the woman seeking her own care.
