TALLMADGE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 70-year-old Zeeland area man suffered serious injuries when he fell off of his bike on an eastern Ottawa County roadway over the weekend.
Around 11 AM on Saturday, dispatchers sent first responders to the area of Leonard Street east of 40th Avenue on a report that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Buter, deputies determined the bicyclist appears to have fallen off of a composite bike while attempting to negotiate a curve in the roadway. “A witness, who was riding with the injured party at the time of the accident and had been slightly ahead of him indicated that he had not heard nor seen anything out of the ordinary,” Buter said in a statement.
The unnamed cyclist was taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment. Buter added that the man had been wearing a bike helmet at the time, “and it was determined that the injury could have been far worse had he not been.”
