GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Five persons were hospitalized following a four-vehicle pileup at an intersection west of Hudsonville on Monday morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jeff Steigenga, a northbound vehicle on 48th Avenue apparently drove through a red light at Port Sheldon street around 10:30 AM and plowed into a westbound vehicle that was going through on a green light. The force of the collision drove those two vehicles into two other vehicles that were stopped on southbound 48th Avenue, obeying the red light.
The initial driver was also towing a trailer with a personal water craft upon it; that PWC flew off of the trailer upon impact and landed off of the roadway.
Three of the five occupants in the first vehicle, but not the 18-year-old Hudsonville resident driving the vehicle, were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in stable condition, while the two 65-year-old Hudsonville residents in the second vehicle had to be extricated by rescue workers and were initially listed in stable condition at Metro Health. “None of the occupants in (the other two vehicles) were transported from the scene,” Steigenga said in a department statement. No names were disclosed.
The crash remains under investigation.
