HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Gordon Mummert went looking for his wife, Barb Mummert, among the crowd that filled Central Wesleyan Church Friday, May 31, 2019, for the 14th Annual Senior Community Day.
The Mummerts had arrived together for the 14th Annual Senior Community Day, but he’d gone off to get his hearing tested, while she ducked into a workshop by award-winning Holland artist Carolyn Stich.
“She’ll find me,” he finally said to one of the volunteers, grinning. “I’ve got the car keys.”
He wasn’t surprised by the results of his hearing test and neither was Barb, when he shared it.
“My wife’s been telling me,” he admitted, adding that the test showed he’s lost some hearing for high-pitched tones. “My hearing is not up to par.”
Barb and Jim Neevel, who live at Freedom Village, volunteer every year.
“it’s a marvelous service they offer the community,” she said, adding that this year she had a chance to visit with hospice workers at a booth and tell them “how important they are to this community.”
Many of those who attended lingered to see where the many doors prizes would go — some cited specifics, like flowers, potted trees or a spa basket, but others said they’d be happy to walk away with any of the prizes.
The event is produced every year by the Senior Marketing Group of the Lakeshore Area.
