HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A Georgetown Township teen died just after 11 Friday night in a two-vehicle crash, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Dill.
It happened at Chicago Drive and 18th Avenue in Georgetown Township, when 17-year-old Georgetown Township resident Sydney Carfine had been driving a Saturn sedan south on 18th Avenue and did not stop for a red flashing signal at the intersection of westbound Chicago Drive.
The Saturn collided with a westbound GMC Sierra driven by a 52-year-old Texas man, who had a 28-year-old male passenger, also from Texas.
The GMC struck the Saturn driver’s door, the force of the crash sending the Saturn into a power pole in the median of Chicago Drive.
Georgetown Township firefighters extricated occupants of both vehicles. LIFE EMS rushed all three to Spectrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids, where the teen was later pronounced dead and the two men were treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Westbound Chicago Drive was closed for some time for crash investigators’ safety and road cleanup.
