HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Hope Summer Repertory Theatre will open the family-friendly musical adventure “The Old Man and The Old Moon” with a matinee on Saturday, July 6, at 1:30 p.m. in the DeWitt Center main theatre.
Additional performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. on July 6, 8, 11, 17, 25, 27 and 29, 2019; and Aug. 5, 7 and 9. There will also be performances starting at 1:30 p.m. on July 27; and Aug. 5 and 9.
“The Old Man and The Old Moon” is a tale of an old man who must abandon his duties of filling up the moon with liquid light to cross the seas in search of his missing wife. He abandons his post and plunges his world into darkness. His eventful journey across land, air and sea to find her reminds the two of them — and the audience — of the unwavering power of love.
Productions of the award-winning play, which was developed by New York City’s PigPen Theatre Co., have earned acclaim across the country, including recognition as a critics’ pick in publications including The New York Times, Boston Globe and Chicago Tribune. “This is a story of time and tides and quests, the sort of fable on which mythologies and religions are founded,” The New York Times has written. “[PigPen] asks us to appreciate the finer arts of wild storytelling, while speaking to the childish mind in all of us.”
Hope’s production of “The Old Man and The Old Moon” is directed by Lenny Banovez. The creative team includes Alex Thompson as music director, Nick Parrot as choreographer, Sarah Pearline as scenic designer, Leslie Vaglica as costume designer, Eric Van Tassel as lighting designer and Tamir Eplan-Frankel as sound designer.
The cast includes Chip Duford, Christian Klepac, Mike Lee, Sara Ornelas, Nick Parrot, Meg Rodgers and Taylyn Smith.
Tickets for “The Old Man and The Old Moon” are $40 for regular admission, $32 for senior citizens and $15 for children under 18. Tickets and season packages may be purchased either at the ticket office in the Events and Conferences Office located downtown in the Anderson-Werkman Financial Center, which is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and can be called at (616) 395-7890; or the ticket office in the DeWitt Center, which is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (intermission on performance nights) and Saturdays from noon to intermission. Tickets can also be purchased online at hope.edu/tickets.
The Anderson-Werkman Financial Center is located at 100 E. Eighth St. in downtown Holland, between College and Columbia avenues. The DeWitt Center is located at 141 E. 12th St., facing Columbia Avenue between 10th and 13th streets.
