Lorma Williams Freestone, Holland Area Arts Council’s former director, served as juror, selecting the newest additions to the permanent collection. Williams commended Ottawa County for establishing the Art Trust and also remarked on the courage it takes for an artist to display ones work for the world to see.
“We are once again, overwhelmed by the caliber of talent in Ottawa County. We thank all the artists for sharing their gifts with the community. ” said Al Vanderberg, county administrator.
An art trust is a very tangible way to demonstrate the importance of culture, creativity and innovation, while preserving a legacy of art for generations of residents to come, according to county officials.
All of the works will be displayed until Aug. 23, 2019, at the Fillmore Administration Building, 12220 Fillmore St. in West Olive. The building is open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
County officials say residents can support the art trust by viewing the art at the exhibition.
- Purchasing art from the show for their homes or offices. A portion of the sale goes to the trust.
- Buying pieces as gifts to the art trust. Sponsored pieces will be marked with a plate, recognizing the gift.
- Donating to the art trust, to fund furture art purchases.

Last year, Ottawa County and the Holland Area Arts Council joined forces to establish the Ottawa County Art Trust Exhibition, inviting area artists to enter their Ottawa County themed works in the second annual juried exhibition.
A 2020 exhibit is being planned, with annual exhibitions intended to grow the County’s fine-art collection, a permanent library of artwork made by resident artists. As the collection grows, the works will be on display in various county locations.
