HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Crop insurance, marketing, delayed planting and the day-to-day stress of farming during this soggy year are just a few topics to be covered during an MSU Extension meeting set for 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Zeeland Farm Services, 2525 84th Ave.
People who should attend, he said, includes all farmers, anyone in agribusiness, and veterans.
MSU Extension Soybean Educator Mike Staton says the year, so far, has looked pretty dire, but this weeks sudden heat is helping. It’s not too late to plant some crops, he said, but farmers have several choices to make. (Listen to the podcast.)
The meeting will focus on insurance, marketing, cover crops and managing stress among other topics, he said. And, even if farmers have already made those choices, Tuesday’s meeting is a chance to get out to connect with fellow farmers. MSU Extension has a list of tips for coping with stress.
It’s relatively easy for farmers under duress to get isolated, he said, and that’s not healthy. Anyone who can’t make Tuesday’s meeting will find a wealth of delayed-planting resources at the MSU Extension site.
