Phyllis E. Pollard

By Patty Vandenberg May 23, 2022 | 12:40 PM
Phyllis Elaine Pollard, 77, of Holland, Michigan passed into the loving arms of Jesus on May 13, 2022. Born on June 27, 1944, in Holland to John Sr. and Pearl Bruursema, Phyllis lived a faith-filled life of loving and caring for others. She served as a Sunday school teacher and scout leader; worked alongside her husband at their sailboat business, Pollard’s Landing, for 25 years; and volunteered as a librarian at Evergreen Commons.

Fiercely devoted, Phyllis was a loving wife, mom, “mumsy,” grandma, and an honorary mother and mentor to many others. She came alongside those who needed a friend to listen, encourage, and accept them for who they were. As she often said, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

Phyllis would say that the care and compassion she exemplified were because “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me” (Galatians 2:20). She delighted in spending time with Jesus daily and was passionate about sharing His love with others. Phyllis attended Family Church at Ebenezer and was a longtime member of Lakeshore Vineyard Church, where she and her husband Don led prayer ministry and the Alpha program, introducing many to Christ.

Fun-loving and young at heart, Phyllis showed her spunky side by bopping out to old-time rock and roll and cracking up her family with her many colorful and quirky “momisms.” She was always working on the next mystery novel, puzzle, or Wordle, and had a gift for creating a warm and welcoming home.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; brothers David, Kenneth, Roger, Ronald, and John Jr.; and sister, Diane. Missing her until they meet again is her husband, Don Pollard, of Holland; sons Duane (Lisa) Bos of Allegan and Greg (Pamela) Bos of Hamilton; daughter, Lindsay (Steve) Post of West Olive; grandchildren Keeghan (Lauren) Mannes and Amber Bos; sister, Marilyn Pikaart; and many dear friends and extended family members.

A celebration of life will take place on Thursday, May 26 from 4-7 pm at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St., Holland, MI 49423. Interment will be at Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Holland. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Harbor Humane Society in West Olive.
