HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Three Jenison children were hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash near the Ottawa County fairgounds, just before 9:15 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brent Converse, in an email to media Saturday night.
It happened when a Honda minivan, carrying two Jenison residents, a man and woman, both 36, and five children — ages 16, 13, 12, 8, 5 — was westbound on Ottawa Beach Road. The van slowed, then stopped, for a traffic backup. But a Ford F150 behind the van, with a 25-year-old Holland man at the wheel, did not.
Converse indicated the Holland driver was distracted by fair activities. While all eight people involved were using safety restraints, all eight also had minor injuries as a result, Converse said.
Ottawa Beach Road was blocked off from 152nd Avenue west to the far west gate of the fairgrounds for an hour for crash investigation and cleanup. The Holland driver was treated at the scene and released, he said. Three of the van’s passengers, children ages 16, 12, and 5, went by ambulance to Holland Hospital for observation.
