ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The weather is ideal for something new that Zeeland is trying … a chalk-fest that begins today.
Starting at 4 PM and running through 8 PM, artists of all ages will be using the newly renovated Woonerf, located on Elm Street between Cherry and Main streets, as their canvas for creating six foot by six foot large works.
City Events Coordinator Kerri VanDorp said that idea for this new event came from staging another event in 2018. “We had two chalk artists come downtown and create pieces for us during our movie night,” she explained. “It was so well received that I thought it would be fun to invite a bunch more artists.”
Attendees will be asked to vote for their favorites this evening, with the winner to be announced tomorrow. There will also be food trucks, live music and outdoor yard games.
VanDorp added that, with no rain in the forecast, these chalk creations could last through the entire weekend.
