HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Two separate motorcycle crashes at nearly the same spot in Wright Township — at nearly the same time. Two riders without helmets hospitalized with serious injuries.
A statement from Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office indicates speed is a factor in each crash. They happened just before 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019.
The first crash happened near westbound I-96 — at the 8th Avenue curve to Hayes Street. A 47-year-old Wyoming man on a 2014 Harley Davidson had been headed south on 8th Avenue, but lost control on the curve.
The motorcycle went off the road, through the ditch, landing on the freeway embankment. The man went by AeroMed helicopter to Sepctrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids.
The freeway was closed temporarily for the crash response.
At the same time, deputies were dispatched to a second motorcycle crash on the same stretch of road, at nearly the same time – -in this case, a 44-year-old Wyoming may on a 2005 Harley Davidson also lost control. In this case the motorcycle crashed into a ditch on Hayes Street. The man went by LIFE EMS to Spectrum Health with severe head injuries.
