HOLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The rumble of trucks — big rigs and honking horns aplenty — filled the air from Zeeland to Holland Monday, for the 10th Annual Truck Parade.
Even as the parade rolled toward Hollands, amid streets lined with truck fans, another group went strolling along a 4-mile path through Holland’s Window on the Waterfront, many aiming for Windmill Island and a pancake breakfast fundraiser. Some did all three. (See the photo galleries.)
Jake and Lorelle Eberly skipped the walk and parade, driving from their northside home to Windmill Island. They try to make it to every year’s pancake breakfast but they have different favorite parts of the breakfast.
Eberly loves seeing his neigbhors and friends noshing at Windmill Island.
Lorelle Eberly burst out laughing when she mentioned seeing Andy Kenyon working the grill. His normal job? Holland Park and Recreation director. Kenyon reported cooking 1,400 sausages for the breakfast, which drew more than 350 diners, in all.
Proceeds from the breakfast sales help fund the Sal Perez Scholarship, which in turn helps children from Holland’s low-income family join Parks-and-Rec programs.
