UPDATE at 5:02 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019: Holland Township resident Eliud Rey Vazquez, 17, is now in police custody according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett.
HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s officials have named the two suspects in the hit-and-run death Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, of Zeeland resident Melissa Yates, 41.
Police named Holland resident Sebastian Abel Villarreal, 22, as the driver and say he faces charges of failure to stop at the scene of a traffic crash when at fault, resulting in death, and as a third-notice habitual offender.
Police say Holland Township resident Eliud Rey Vazquez, 17, faces a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, less than murder. Police indicated Vazquez was the person who pushed Yates to the ground moments before she was run over by a car. She died from her injuries later Tuesday.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett said anyone with any information is asked to contact police directly, or share tips via Silent Observer, 877-88-SILENT or visit mosotips.com to send tips online.
