WAYLAND, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Wayland man is facing multiple felony charges after crashing into a police cruiser, attempting to steal a vehicle, and then fleeing on a bicycle.
Wayland Police were called to a home near Black River Waterproofing on Clark Street just before 6 a.m. Sunday where they first found a pickup truck that was crashed into a swimming pool, and then items scattered around a nearby building with a man in a mid-sized red Oldsmobile sedan.
Officers ordered the man to stop, but he accelerated nearly hitting the officer, and then put it in reverse smashing and disabling the Wayland police cruiser.
The suspect fled on foot with a long garden tool in his hands and attempted to carjack a vehicle at the Wayland Laundry on Superior Street, but he was unsuccessful.
A K-9 track was launched where police located the man now riding on a bicycle.
The 31-year-old man was eventually caught and taken to the Allegan County Jail on 6-different charges including felonious assault of a police officer with a motor vehicle, felony fleeing and eluding, felony malicious destruction of police property, attempted carjacking, felony malicious destruction of property of Black River Waterproofing, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Other charges are pending.
The owners of Black River Waterproofing say they have about $12,400 in damaged tools from the incident.
