Brant Kym Named MIAA Baseball Position Athlete of the Week
Hope College shortstop Brant Kym is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Baseball Position Athlete of the Week.
The senior from Libertyville, Illinois (Libertyville HS) is receiving the honor for the first time this season and the second time in his career.
Kym is recognized after batting .750 with three RBI and three runs scored during the Flying Dutchmen’s victories against Transylvania University (Ky.) and Manchester College (Ind.) in Westfield, Ind.
During a 5-0 victory against Transylvania in Saturday’s season opener, Kym went 3-for-5 with a triple and a double. The business and economics major also scored once and drove in one run.
During a 16-5 victory against Manchester, Kym batted 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. He also stole a base.
Sean Hoey Selected as MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Hope College’s Sean Hoey is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
The senior right-hander from Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) fired 7 ⅔ scoreless innings and earned the decision during a 5-0 victory against Transyvania University (Ky.) on Saturday.
Hoey made his first start of the season and recorded 12 strikeouts. The secondary education major yielded only two hits and did not walk a batter.
It was Hoey’s 40th career appearance and 18th career start.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Saydee Johns Chosen as MIAA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
Hope College’s Saydee Johns is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week.
The senior from Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) is receiving the honor for the first time.
Johns earned a team-high three points over three matches for the Flying Dutch last week.
During a 6-3 win against Oberlin College (Ohio) on Friday, Johns served up a 6-3, 7-6 (2) win at No. 4 singles.
The education and special education major also paired with junior Taylor Truman for an 8-7 (4) win at No. 2 doubles against Oberlin.
Johns and Truman also earned Hope’s point on Saturday during an 8-1 loss to Case Western Reserve University (Ohio) with an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles.
