HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland is the America in Bloom winner, in the 30,000-40,000-population category award.
City officials learned about the award during the America in Bloom (AIB) 2019 Symposium in St. Charles, IL, Oct. 3-5.
The city’s annual Tulip Time Festival, which marked 90 years in May, is the reason Holland received a special AIB award: “Life of the Party – Best Community Celebration.”
AIB judges visited Holland on July 29 and 30, 2019, as for national competition evaluation. This national awards program encourages residents, businesses, and organizations to come together to collaborate on common goals that benefit the whole community, including economic development, improved quality of life, greater civic pride, and a renewed sense of community vitality.
Judges evaluated the community’s work in the areas of community vitality, environmental efforts, celebrating heritage, landscaped areas, urban forestry, flowers, and overall impression, as well as assessing community involvement. The evaluation includes suggestions for the next year’s entry, something Holland Visitors Bureau Linda Hart said is helpful.
