UPDATE: Holland police announced via Facebook that a man with a BB gun was taken into custody near 12th Street and River Avenue yesterday afternoon. The man was arrested on suspicion of activity not related to the Hope incident, according to police.
UPDATE: According to Holland Police Capt. Keith Mulder, police responded to a report of “a man with a gun going into a seminary building near the Hope College campus.”
Officers searched the building but did not find the subject, according to Mulder, who wrote in an email to WHTC, “then they received information that the subject left on foot prior to our arrival.
We received no other reports, no report of a crime, and did not find the subject at this point.”
HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Hope College issued a lockdown alert just after 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, that lasted about 40 minutes.
According to a notice posted on the campus safety page, college authorities were concerned about a report of a crime suspect being near campus. The lockdown, according to school officials, went out after the report of a person with a gun in the Western Theological Seminary building.
When that person left the bulding, Holland police were summoned, and searched the area Campus Safety issued the all-clear, just before 12:30 p.m.
“Given the proximity to Hope’s campus, we felt it was prudent to issue the warning to ensure the safety of students and employees,” the statement on Hope’s alert page continued, adding, “We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we thank you for your cooperation.”
