HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett has released more information on the murder of 64-year-old James Kenneth Boone.
Police were called just before 7:30 Sunday, Bennett said, by Boone’s 25-year-old son, who told dispatchers he’d hurt his father. Police found the older man dead at the home 18674 Pawnee Drive in Spring Lake Township. A forensic autopsy done Monday indicates Boone’s cause of death was multiple blunt-force trauma. Police found Boone’s son walking down the road, still in the neighborhood.
Bennett said, when deputies took the 25-year-old into custody, he had an item police believe was used to kill Boone.
Police are not releasing the suspect’s name until he is arraigned. State records show the man has been in and out of prison since 2012, and was paroled last February after serving nearly two years behind bars for the unlawful use of an automoble.
He made a plea agreement in 2012 to two counts of aggravated indecent exposure and has been a registered sex offender since June of 2012, with the registration set to expire in 2029.
Earlier, WHTC reported Ottawa County Sheriff’s detectives were investigating a homicide in Spring Lake Township’s North Holiday Hills.

There is no threat to the public, according to Detective Jason Kik.
