PLAINWELL, MI (WTVB) – Plainwell Community Schools is moving ahead with random drug and nicotine testing in the high school.
The Board of Education for the Allegan County district Monday night voted 5-to-2 to institute the policy. The drug tests will only be done on students involved in extracurricular activities, such as athletics, musicals, National Honor Society, and other clubs.
According to WZZM 13, there was push back at the meeting, with parents arguing students would experiment.
About 38 percent of districts nationwide have a drug testing policy, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
