SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Saugatuck City Council has some business to take care of on Monday night before they can celebrate the holidays.
During the scheduled biweekly meeting, the panel will be asked to accept a $100,000 donation from the estate of Dave Balas and Jim Sellman, specifically for “erecting a performance bandshell structure” at Wicks Park, according to City Manager Kirk Harrier in a report attached to the meeting agenda. Once accepted, “a brokerage account will then be established to accept the donation in the form of securities that would be sold to produce the sum of $100,000,” Harrier added.
Also during the meeting, Council will be asked to approve a Blue Star Trail “Revised Joint Resolution” that would help in building a non-motorized trail from Washington Street in Douglas to Holland Street in Saugatuck Township along the Blue Star Highway, with state grants paying for 75% of the $1 million- to $2 million-dollar price tag, as estimated by the non-profit group Friends of the Blue Star Trail. The City of the Village of Douglas and Saugatuck Township will also need to approve this resolution that would led to the forming of a Joint Study Committee, in conjunction with the FOTBST and the Allegan County Road Commission, which would seek those state grants.
In addition, Allegan County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Brett Ensfield will provide his monthly report on policing in Saugatuck, which may include his recent statement about a new phone scam that has residents receiving calls, purportedly from the Sheriff’s Department, demanding money.
The Saugatuck City Council meets in the second floor of City Hall at 7 PM.
