CROCKERY TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – One of three men from the Lansing area who were injured in a two-vehicle crash along I-96 near Nunica on Friday night has succumbed to his injuries
No names were initially given by Ottawa County Sheriff Sergeant Derek Gerencer, as he and other first responders were dispatched to the incident along the westbound lanes of the freeway near the 10 mile marker just before 11 PM. According to his report, a car on the shoulder had broken down and had its four-way flashers activated when another car in the right lane veered to the right and rammed into it. The three men, ranging in age from 25 to 29, were passengers inside of the disabled vehicle and were taken to Hackley Hospital for treament, with one of them initially listed in critical condition.
In a Sunday update, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christopher Dill reported, “The Muskegon County Medical Examiner’s Office contacted the Sheriff’s Office to make notification that 25-year-old Charitha Aella, a Lansing, Michigan resident, died as a result of injuries sustained in this crash.
The driver of the disabled vehicle, a 26-year-old Lansing woman, along with the solo motorist in the other vehicle, a 40-year-old Muskegon Heights man, were not injured.
Gerencer added that speed and alcohol “do appear to be a factor in this crash,” which remains under investigation.
