HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 12, 2022) – Seat belts have been proven to be one of the best ways to save your life in a crash. Yet, many still don’t buckle up. Worse still, not wearing a seat belt is a habit that will pass on to impressionable youth who, in turn, will think it is safe to not buckle up. The Click It or Ticket campaign focuses on safety education, strong laws, and law enforcement support to save lives.
Seat belts save lives every day. They can only save lives, however, if they’re used, and there are still many people in Michigan who don’t buckle up. Wearing a seat belt can reduce the risk of a fatal injury by 45%. This is why our community needs to know that wearing a seat belt can make the difference between life and death.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Office of Highway Safety and Planning, will be participating in the statewide Click It or Ticket campaign. This campaign begins on May 16 and runs through June 5. During this campaign, deputies will be focusing on lack of seat belt use, improper wearing of seat belts & child restraint violations.
