ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The process for selecting a new Police Chief in the city of Zeeland begins in earnest today.
A formal job posting will be made through various resources to seek applicants for the post that Bill Olney retired from this past summer after 16 years. In a memo to council members ahead of this evening’s biweekly meeting, City Manager Tim Klunder “as a reminder” spelled out an estimated timeline of having resumes due by January 31st; candidates selected for interviews by February 9th, with initial conversations slated through February 28th and the second round from March 1st through the 9th; a decision and tenative offer made by March 16th, with a March 19th appointment by Council, and the first day for the new person on the job on April 16th.
Last month, Council members concurred with a special committee’s recommendation that Zeeland retain its independent police department; the possibility of contracting out services with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department had been considered in the wake of Olney’s retirement. Tom Ball and Kevin Cisler are sharing the leadership duties on an interim basis.
Meanwhile, postings for the manager’s position with both the City of Holland and with Holland Charter Township were put online before the New Year’s holiday; links to both are here for Holland and here for Holland Township. Holland is looking for a permanent replacement for Ryan Cotton, who stepped down last summer, while Don Komejan retires from the township this coming May.
