Gloria Gomez

Gloria Alicia Gomez, age 83 of Holland passed away May 9, 2022, at home, in the loving arms of her husband Pete. Gloria was born on November 19, 1938, to Florentino and Eliza Ruiz of Laredo, TX. She lived in Holland most of her life, was a longtime member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, and worked for H.J. Heinz for 45 years.

She and Pete raised their family modeling a loving relationship and always giving of their time, talent, and treasure. They loved to travel, visit family, and make new friends. After her retirement, you could find Gloria in the early morning hours working out at the Holland Aquatic Center. Her children and grandchildren learned so much from her over the years, you need only ask, and they will surely share some of her warmth, wisdom, and love.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 63 years Pete, daughters Sylvia Madrigal, Esther Gomez, Ana Maria (Jośe) Cabrera, Graciela Gomez, 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; Brothers Ernesto (Guadalupe) Ruiz of Dearborn Heights, MI, Tino (Sally) Ruiz of Holland, MI; Sisters, Margie (Benito) Benavides, Socorro (Ron) VanSlooten all of Holland, MI, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents Florentino and Eliza (Saucedo) Ruiz, brothers Florentino, Hector, and Rodolfo Ruiz. The family is grateful to Emmanuel Hospice for the care and attention they gave Gloria.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 5 pm – 8 pm (Wake Prayers at 7:00) at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16th St, Holland, MI 49423. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 13, 2022, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 171 West 13th St, Holland MI 49423. Interment will follow at Pilgrim Home Cemetery, 364 East 16th St, Holland MI 49423
