HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The issue of alcohol sales and use will be a prominent part of this evening’s Holland City Council meeting, as there are three separate topics about this on the agenda.
First up is a matter of aligning the Holland City Code to that of a new state law that took effect at the first of this month that makes the first offense of a minor in possession of liquor a civil infraction and not a criminal misdemeanor.
Second is a request by the City and DeGraaf Nature Center to allow alcohol sales at its March 24th Maplepalooza fundraising event. The paperwork for a state liquor license and proper insurance coverage has been completed.
Finally, the Holland Civic Center board is asking Council to adopt a resolution authorizing the City to apply for a state municipal liquor license that would cover events at the soon-to-be-renovated facility and adjacent 8th Street Marketplace, with the ability to be a co-holder with an event vendor or to transfer liability to that vendor.
The city’s Human Relations Commission presents its Social Service Awards to begin tonight’s Council meeting at 7 PM in Chambers at Holland City Hall.
