SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It was a familiar face that interviewed for the Saugatuck School Superintendent’s post last night.
Saugatuck High Principal Tim Travis took questions from the board of education during a special public hearing at his school’s media center, as the panel was looking to see if his responses were in line with a position profile drawn up from various public sources over the past month. A principal and hall-of-fame football coach at Unionville-Sebewaing High before coming to the Lakeshore in 2005, Travis was the only candidate to be queried, as the board is initially looking internally for Rolfe Timmerman’s replacement as superintendent.
Timmerman is stepping down on January 26th after nine years in what is being termed a “retirement,” although a statement last September by then-Board President Jeff Myers said that “the strategic vision for the future of the Saugatuck district would best be served by a leadership change.”
Travis is tentatively slated to appear before the board again next Wednesday before a decision is made on whether to promote him to superintendent or to expand the search to candidates from outside the district.
