PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Rolfe Timmerman’s “retirement” won’t come right away.
The Saugatuck Public Schools Superintendent, who steps away from his post on Friday after nine years, has been appointed by the West Ottawa Board of Education to the vacant Principal position at the district’s Lakeshore Elementary School. It’s a return to primary education for Timmerman, who had been an elementary school principal in the Hesperia and Hamilton districts before taking over Saugatuck’s schools in 2008.
The term “retirement” was used when Timmerman stepped down in September, although then-Board President Jeff Myers said in a statement that the panel and Timmerman agreed “that the strategic vision for the future of the Saugatuck district would best be served by a leadership change.”
As Timmerman assumes the Lakeshore principal’s duties on Monday, working alongside current Interim Principal Jordan Beel, who returns to being the district’s director of instructional technology, the Saugatuck board tomorrow night holds a second interview with Saugatuck High Principal Tim Travis, probably to determine if he will become that district’s new superintendent, or if the board will expand the search for a new chief to include candidates from outside of the district. Travis answered questions from the board last Wednesday.
