OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It didn’t get nearly the amount of exposure to Governor Snyder’s “State of the State” address last night, but the Ottawa County Administrator delivered his own “State of” remarks yesterday.
Speaking before the Board of Commissioners, Al Vanderberg said that his county continues to show strong growth through low property taxes, a flourishing economy, and investment in a region rich in natural beauty that continues to attract residents and commerce. In his “State of the County” speech, Vanderberg also cited the county’s “strong financial position,” enhanced by collaborations and partnerships in services that has saved tax dollars. Looking ahead, the Administrator wants the county to improve efforts for tackling the growing opioid abuse problem, increase support for mental health services, address the need for more affordable housing, seek solutions for pension liability and cyber-security issues, and move forward on plans for a new Juvenile Justice Center.
Vanderberg, in his 15th year as County Administrator, received a contract extension last month from the board to continue in that position through the end of 2020.
