LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – An Otsego Middle School teacher has earned a statewide honor.
The Michigan Lottery tabbed Jake Knash as this week’s Excellence in Education award winner. He was selected for what those who nominated the reading teacher say was “the ability to inspire every student” through a reading program for those not reading at the normal reading level, along with a leadership class and a youth program aimed towards shaping young men into model community citizens. He also travels to other states, talking about the “Capturing Kids Hearts” program aimed at helping educators improve their abilities to reach students.
Knash, who has been in Otsego Public Schools for 11 years after graduating from Grand Valley State, will receive a plaque, a 15-hundred-dollar cash prize and a 500-dollar grant for the classroom, school or district. He will also be in the running for the Lottery’s Educator of the Year award that comes with a 10 thousand-dollar cash prize.
