PAW PAW, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A thief or thieves are finding fertile ground in northern Van Buren County, and the long arm of the law hopes to stop the crime spree shortly.
From Sunday evening through Monday night, five homes in the 65 thousand block of Front Street, off of Van Auken Lake in Bangor, were broken into, with multiple items stolen from each residence. Foot impressions of someone with a shoe size of 10 to 13 were discovered in the snow, along with tire tracks of a small car or pickup truck, and it appeared that the vehicle was backed into a driveway that abutted a couple of houses to facilitate the carrying away of stolen loot. A pry bar at the scene was recovered that investigators believe was used to break into the dwellings.
Earlier today, South Haven police reported a string of break ins in the Windingwoods subdivision that had similar foot prints and tire tracks, leading investigators to believe that the same perpetrator or perpetrators were involved.
Anyone with any information on these incidents is asked to contact the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, Crime Stoppers (800-342-7867) or Silent Observer (269-343-2100).
