HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The pause button has been hit in the criminal justice process for Shane William Wheeler.
A preliminary hearing scheduled on Wednesday for the 48-year-old Holland Township man, on charges stemming from a string of burglaries this past fall, including one that led to the burning down of the Graphix Signs and Embroidery building on November 20th, was put on hold as Holland District Court Judge Susan Jonas ordered a forensic competency examination for Wheeler. He and a then-16-year-old were arrested four days after the blaze, and prosecutors say that they could be behind at least a dozen break ins between October 22nd to November 24th in the Holland/Zeeland area.
Wheeler, who also faces state parole violation charges, remains held on 50 thousand dollars bond, while the now-17-year-old teen is free on bond.
