GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The ever-changing weather picture in West Michigan continues to shift.
The National Weather Service Office in Grand Rapids shortened a Winter Weather Advisory for Allegan and Ottawa counties, as well as for four others surrounding them, when it went into effect at 4 PM on Monday. It will now run through 5 AM on Tuesday, a reduction of two hours from what had been established, but forecasters raised the total snow accumulation prediction to between four and six inches. In telling motorists to plan for slippery road conditions with brisk southwest winds causing snow to drift, the government meteorologists added that, “Even though the snow will be diminishing by 5 AM, some roads may still be slick into the Tuesday morning commute.”
Looking ahead, some additional “light” snow is expected from Tuesday night and Wednesday, accumulating one to four inches in this time frame, and more snow is possible from Thursday night into Friday. Redeveloping ice could lead to jams by the end of the week and possible localized flooding.
