HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – There are new developments in the efforts by the Holland Department of Public Safety to find a man who allegedly robbed a convenience store on Tuesday evening.
According to Captain Bob Buursma, the suspect, wearing dark clothing and a “puffy” jacket, walked into the Admiral Ship Store off of East 24th Street shortly before 8 PM, briefly displayed an unknown caliber silver handgun to the clerk on duty and demanded cash. The clerk handed over an “undetermined” amount of money from the register, and the man fled on foot, running northbound on College Avenue. A police canine unit was deployed but couldn’t track down the suspect. The shaken but unharmed clerk could only tell detectives that the man was either Caucasian or Hispanic and was about 35 to 40 years of age.
Investigators had canvassed surrounding businesses and learned “of a subject who had been by a nearby business prior to the robbery asking for money,” Buursma explained. “At this time, police are seeking to identify this individual as a person of interest in this case.” Such identification came on Wednesday morning, and Buursma said that, “detectives no longer believe the person of interest, from the photos of a nearby business, is involved in the armed robbery.”
However, the suspect still remained at large as of midday on Wednesday, and anyone with any information is asked to contact Holland Public Safety (616-355-1150; policetips@cityofholland.com) or Silent Observer.
