SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – There was a moment of silence at Van Andel Arena last night for a 30-year-old Grand Rapids Griffins staffer from Saugatuck who had suddenly passed away.
Jake Engel had been a a corporate sales manager with the AHL team when he suffered cardiac arrest at his home over the weekend, succumbing on Tuesday. He was a member of the Saugatuck High football team during his prep days and spent time working with the West Michigan Whitecaps and Muskegon Lumberjacks during and after his graduation from Western Michigan University before joining the Griffins full time in 2016.
Engel leaves behind a pregnant wife that is due to give birth to the couple’s first child this summer. Visitation is tomorrow at the Dykstra Funeral Home’s Mulder Chapel, with a Saturday afternoon memorial service at Community Church of Douglas.
