SPRING LAKE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A trucker that allegedly caused a 10-vehicle, three-accident pileup in the Tri-Cities yesterday afternoon and drove off is being sought.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brian Buter, witnesses say that the white semi carrying a white trailer was northbound on US-31 and had just crossed the drawbridge over the Grand River shortly after 3 PM. “Both witnessess advised that the semi had been in the inside (left) lane and made an improper, last-second lane change, from the inside lane of US-31 to the turn lane onto eastbound M-104 exit,” he explained. “This action caused the crashes. However, the semi was apparently not hit by any of the cars.”
The trucker then drove off, appearing to be oblivious to the scene. Deputies and other first responders handled the matter, with no injuries reported, and a “moderate backup,” according to Buter, while the damaged vehicles were being taken care of.
Anyone with any information on the trucker involved in the crash is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer.
