ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Police Chief isn’t the only vacancy that the city of Zeeland needs to fill.
During Monday night’s City Council meeting, City Manager Tim Klunder proposed the creation of a four-person committee to search for a new city Clerk and Assistant Personnel Director. Karen Jipping is retiring, effective on June 1st, but she has expressed a willingness to seek her replacement. Council approved the panel that consists of Jipping, Klunder, Mayor Kevin Klynstra and Mayor Pro-Tem Sally Gruppen, with job applications accepted through March 12th. The second round of interviews for the vacant Police Chief’s position is this coming Friday after the first round was held this past Friday.
Also during the biweekly meeting, Klunder showed “a couple of brief traffic simulation videos so City Council can gain a perspective on how the traffic will flow” after a proposed 7.6 million-dollar renovation of the Business 196-Main Avenue-Chicago Drive interchange is completed. Last week, the state Department of Transportation awarded a 2.7 million-dollar grant to the project, with the remaining funds coming from a variety of sources, including the city of Zeeland. Klunder added in his pre-meeting notes that, “from a project timing perspective, it is my understanding that MDOT is looking to start construction around July of this year, with completion by late fall.”
