UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM) – While the flood warning for the Lakeshore in general expired yesterday afternoon, the aftermath of heavy rains across southern Michigan continues.
A flood warning for the Grand River in Robinson Township continues “until further notice,” according to the National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids. The river there went past the 13.3-foot flood stage on Wednesday, and forecasters say that it could be near the 17-foot mark by Sunday morning, the highest it has been in nearly five years.
As for the Kalamazoo River near New Richmond, it has already gone past the 17-foot flood stage level and is predicted to rise to near 18 and a half feet by later today, also the highest in nearly five years. Further upstream, the city of Allegan has opened the floodgates at the Allegan Dam because of the swollen river.
Looking ahead, river levels throughout the region are expected to remain high into next week, with a frontal system predicted to stall in West Michigan by Wednesday, possibly bringing more significant rainfall into the area.
