HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A familiar face has a new job.
The Holland Township Board on Saturday unanimously concurred with the recommendation of a special committee and appointed Steve Bulthuis as the township’s new Superintendent. The committee had endorsed the executive director of the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council for the past eight years ahead of Ludington City Manager John Shay after both men appeared before the committee in a public interview on Tuesday.
Before the interviews, Township Supervisor Terry Nienhuis admitted that the choice wasn’t easy. “Both of them have been in their positions for an extended period of time, which is one of the traits we look for,” Nienhuis said. “They both work well with their elected boards, and they both are community and intergovernmental relations-type people. They collaborate a lot with neighboring communities, so both of these candidates are very close. It’s a difficult decision, quite frankly, to make as we proceed.”
Bulthuis will assume the township’s day-to-day managerial duties when Don Komejan retires in May.
