ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – As Holland Township has chosen its next Superintendent and the City of Holland nears its pick for a new City Manager, two men have emerged as the finalists for the Zeeland Police Chief’s post.
City Manager Tim Klunder says that, during the week of March 19th, the last round of interviews should be conducted with Wayland Police Chief Steve Harper and Eaton County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Tim Jungel. These two emerged after two separate public question-and-answer sessions over the past couple of weeks that also included current Interim Police Chief Kevin Cisler, Meredian Township Police Captain Gregory Frenger, and Pat Boyd, the Assistant Commander of the state police post in Paw Paw.
Klunder added that further due diligence is being done in vetting Harper and Jungel, and the new chief may not be appointed until early May. The Zeeland Police Chief’s seat has been vacant since the retirement this past summer of Bill Olney, but City Council waited until December to post the position in order to conduct a study into whether to continue having an independent police force or to contract out police services with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.
