HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – If there is an extra hubbub going on in and around Holland this weekend, credit a relatively new annual tradition that has, in the current vernacular, “gone viral.”
To some such as Linda Hart of the Holland Area Visitors Bureau, it doesn’t seem as if it was a decade ago that the first “girlfriends weekend” was held in the Tulip City. “It helps our downtown, it helps our economy,” she observed, “and it’s just nice to have people around. I mean, we’re walking downtown and seeing the same faces, so its always nice to an injection of fresh, new people. A lot of these ‘girlfriends’ do come back every year, and the fact that it’s growing every year is great. There’s a lot of other communities now who do have a ‘girlfriends weekend’ in the spring because, in Holland, it has been so successful.”
A busy slate of activities over a three-day period kicks off this morning. More information is here.
